The Little Rock, Arkansas area scene was booming during the late ’90’s and early ’00’s. It was home to band’s such as Living Sacrifice, Eso Charis, Soul Embraced, and a certain soon to be multi-platinum band known as Evanescence. Evanescence actually started out as a side project for one of the members of a groove metal band known as Mindrage. On their one and only album 2000’s Sown In Weakness Raised In Power, Mindrage blend thick, chunky metal with a groove that would make Pantera proud. Musically the band is tight and makes great use of the stop/start dynamic. Vocally the “singer” uses a deep growl similar to Ryan Clark’s work with Demon Hunter. Although their only release, the album proves the band to be top notch professionals.
