DRIVER EIGHT

The christian rock scene of the mid ’90’s had an amalgam of different styles and was a hotbed for experimentation. Although punk, hardcore, and ska were the most popular genre’s, others such as shoegaze, indie rock, and alternative had their fair share of impressive, if not great bands as well. One of those short-lived, yet amazing bands was a little three piece known as Driver Eight. Their sound was a hodgepodge of cool alternative, lush indie rock, moody brit-pop, and fuzzy, noisy shoegaze. First appearing on the second installment of Tooth and Nails Artcore series, Driver Eight released their one and only album, a gorgeous, massively underrated album known as Watermelon. From the opening title track until the closer “Superglue”, Driver Eight laid out an exceptional album full of fuzzy guitar, cool melodies, and sudden changes in atmosphere and tempo. After the release of Watermelon, the band continued to tour before ultimately calling it quits. Sadly, we were only blessed with one album from this talented band, but oh what an album it was. Driver Eight were unique, underrated, and amazing.
